Dr Claudia Ashkar
Dr Claudia Ashkar graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Doctor of Medicine with distinction. During her medical degree she was recognised as the top academic student at the Northern Hospital clinical school, was awarded the Clara Myers prize and earned an award for research excellence.
Dr Ashkar completed endocrinology specialist training at the Alfred Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital and Peninsula Health. She has published and presented research in the areas of diabetes, Graves’ disease and pituitary disease. She was awarded best presentation at the 2022 Victorian and Tasmanian quality in diabetes care meeting.
She has interest in all areas of endocrinology including diabetes, pituitary, thyroid and adrenal disorders, PCOS, osteoporosis and endocrine disorders in pregnancy. Her approach is empathetic, holistic and she embraces multi-disciplinary care to manage complex medical problems.
Dr Ashkar has been a passionate medical educator throughout her career and is currently teaching clinical skills to medical students for Monash University. She also holds a staff appointment at Peninsula Health.
When not at work, Dr Ashkar enjoys spending time with her family at the beach or camping. She enjoys learning any new hobby but particularly loves yoga, live music, fire twirling and knitting.
